We were here coz of this stall famous for their char siew paus!
6 Jalan Bukit Merah Singapore 150006 (Near Queenstown's Ikea)
This is the stall! There was already a long queue when we got there~ I bet the other stall owners hate them! Haha~
Halfway through the queue~
Hard at work!
We had to wait for an hour before we got our char siew paus! Everyone was buying char siew paus by the boxes, nobody bought anything else that was all they made over and over again the whole time we were there!
50 cents each~
So petite and cute! They're best char siew paus i've ever eaten! Soft and fluffy but still chewy! Generous fillings, i might add! Not to mention that their petite size made for easy and convenient consumption!
Here's the juicy insides:
We were on a char siew roll! Apparently, this stall's famous for their char siew too!
Wonderfully tender, juicy char siew on rice! Love the charred bits!
I didn't know that Aji Tei's under the very same management which runs Ajisen; if i'd known, i would have avoided this place like the plague! Stupid me missed the obvious connection in their names!
But then again, this place wasn't that bad actually~ Perhaps jux a wee bit better than Ajisen?
Our Blue Coral Soda ($3.80)~ Tastes artificial but still swallowable!
No idea why the pictures turned out so bright! Mux be the bad (harsh) lighting there, haha! Anyhow, that's my Chicken Toji Set ($12.80); fried chicken drenched in flavoury broth with scrambled eggs~ Not too shabby; i kinda liked the overall combination!
My grouses were that the rice was too hard (not those soft fluffy japanese rice), the miso soup came semi-lukewarm and the radish (top right) soup came cold! *shudders*
Baby's Pork Cutlet Set ($13.80)~ The texture of the meat was kinda tough but not much complaints.
Both of us dun fancy raw food at all, but we decided what the heck; we'll jux try out this sashimi thingy once and for all to see why some ppl like them so much!
It turned out to be a bad choice!
Baby took a bite first and pronounced it tasteless. I took a bite and spat it out. Haha! Let me explain why. Correct me if im wrong; but i've always thought that these raw salmon slices were supposed to have a Q texture!? The one i had turned out to be really mushy instead; i suppose they served us sashimi which weren't fresh!
To sum up, Aji Tei's really those "once-is-enough" kinda restaurant!
P/S: Apparently this omu rice stall's by the Ajisen's management too!
I thought i'd post up some food piccies which i've never shown on this blog before~ Some of them were meant for reviewing but u noe... with my fabulous procrastination and all...
Nevertheless, i've sorted them out and even categorised them! *congratulates self*
And for the third time, this blog turns 1! Ixxit appropriate to say Happy Birthday? Well, Happy Birthday all the same! ^_^
This is my 4th blog ever since i started blogging 6 years ago; started early instead of jumping on this blog bandwagon which only emerged in recent years! ^_^
I toyed with the idea of starting a food blog a year ago coz baby and i love our grub - a lot! Went ahead with it and never did regret it; what a good excuse to pig out! =X
I was jux curious about the queue in Suntec; whether it would be better or worse~ Like i'd said before, this new outlet would either disperse the crowd or attract more ppl~
The addition of a cafe is definitely welcomed; as with the express counter where no more than 2 donuts can be bought per person~ ^_^
The normal queue where ppl get their dozens and dozens of donuts was rather long; though nowhere near their predecessor over at Raffles City~
Suntec, #01-193 (Near Carrefour)
I wasn't really in a donut mood that day so i jux got my fave Double Chocolate ($1.20) for dine-in since there weren't many ppl in the cafe yet. I got it within 5 minutes! No hours of waiting for me anymore unless i wanna get a dozen or something!
My only grouse was that the staff at the counter seemed kinda peeved that i only got 1 to share with Baby though! Hmpf!
It's been about 4 months since i've last eaten donuts from here and the double chocolate (all warm and melty!) was still as good as i remember it! Read my detailed review here!
By the way, u can request for iced water if ur dining in; FOC!
The pic above was taken when they first opened, the queue's not that long now; which is a sign that their donuts are not good enough to keep the crowd but i had to try it for myself!
And their webbie is still under construction! Geez~
The queue was actually pretty fast-moving; i got my donuts within 20 minutes and there were about 10+ people in front of me~
There's around 15 flavours to choose from, but they're all the same old ones~
Firstly, their donuts' texture was hard although they claimed that their donuts were "crispy on the outside and soft on the inside". Nope, they were neither cripsy nor soft; jux hard. It's even worse the day after (unlike Donut Factory which keeps well)!
Secondly, the toppings were sickeningly sweet! Half a donut and i couldn't take it. Even my bro, who likes sweet stuff thought so~
Thirdly, it's a real mess eating those donuts! Their toppings dun really "harden" well and it smeared all over my hands~
We have never checked out this place coz it always looked kinda empty (today was an exception!), but we were feeling curious today haha~ (actually it's coz we have tried almost everything else in Cineleisure and we dunno what to eat haha)!
It functions (almost) like a fast-food restaurant. We ordered at the counter, collected our drinks, desserts, chilli sachets and whatever else before they deliver the meals to us (within minutes)~
We settled for the teppanyaki chicken sets as we thought it should be a safe enough choice. A much safer bet than dishes like udon!
A teppanyaki chicken set ($5.90) comes with rice, miso soup, drink and dessert! Very affordable, if u ask me!
The chicken wasn't too bad; much better than we expected actually! The miso soup's definitely better than those u get in sushi chains like Sakae, Suki, Genki... etc. MSG alert though!
U get to choose between the strawberry cheesecake and some pudding thing; we went for the former. The pudding didn't look very appetising! Artificial looking/tasting but it really wasn't that horrible. Still palatable!
P/S: If u haven't already watched Transformers, well u should! Awesome movie! ^_^
PP/S: I dun think that Live Earth thing's gonna work very well~
This post is long overdue; meant to put it up earlier but seeing as how im the ultimate procrastinator...
I dunno whether this is still available but thought i'd put it up all the same!
The Fairy Tale Feast at McDonald's is actually a promotional meal for Shrek the Third. 2 sets to choose from; Grilled Chicken Teppanyaki Burger, shaker fries (with seaweed seasoning) and green tea ($7+) or the said burger with normal fries and drink ($6+)~
The shaker fries were jux alright; i had it once and never ordered it again coz it's meal costs more and im fine without it~ But the Grilled Chicken Teppanyaki Burger; great stuff!
In my humble opinion, this is the best burger i've had from McDonald's in quite a while! I love love love the slab of grilled chicken with black pepper bits; tender and flavoury!
If miraculously this burger is still available, u have to try it before it's gone!
This is the Zesty Lime Sundae ($1.80 - $2); also part of the promotional meal for Shrek the Third (So is the Honeydew Milkshake)~
Despite its scary artificial-looking neon green colour, it's actually rather good! Generous amount of lime jelly cubes which provided a satisfying crunch to the smooth ice-cream~ Yummm...~
The Zesty Lime Sundae should still be available; u should noe what to do, dun u?
